1968 Ford Mustang GT Details

This Mustang is an original 289ci car that has been loaded up with GT accessories. This is a great car for someone who wants a GT but doesn’t want the GT price tag. It is possible that the car was converted to a GT by the dealer when new, which was somewhat common in the late 60’s. The car is the original Meadowlark Yellow with black vinyl top.

This car has a 289ci V8. The odometer reads 74031 but that is probably not the actual mileage. It is mated to a C-4 cruise-o-matic transmission. The motor cranks right up on the first turn of the key, even from a cold start. The suspension on this car is all original or OE style replacements. There is some normal wear but the car handles well and turns well. The brakes have been replaced with the GT power disc brakes and have new pads on them. The master cylinder has been replaced and works well. The parking brake works, but has a slight problem sticking. The car has a factory Air-conditioning system. The cooling system is in good shape. The fuel system is also in good shape. It has a mechanical fuel pump and also a new fuel gauge and sender assembly. The exhaust system has an OE style crossflow muffler with added glasspacks. It has the quad-tip exhaust pipes from a GT.

The exterior of the car is painted in the original Meadowlark Yellow. The paint is older and has a some chips here and there around the car but they have been touched up. The paint looks good and glossy otherwise. Parts of, if not the whole car have been repainted at some point throughout its life. It even has the original louvered hood. Overall, the car is pretty straight. There are a few rust spots beginning to form around the bottoms of the doors and some in the door jams but other than that, the car is pretty solid. The black vinyl top has been replaced recently and is in very good condition. It is automatic and works well and it also comes with a white top boot cover. It has the 2 piece glass rear window that appears to be new as well. The GT accessories that have been added include the fog lights, fender emblems, quad-tip exhaust, flip-down gas lid and the 14″ x 8″ GT wheels. Most of the chrome trim on the car looks to be original and shows signs of wear and some pitting. The front and rear bumpers have probably been replaced and are in nice condition with very little pitting. The door handles and drivers side mirror are brand new. Overall, it is a good looking car but has its share of blemishes as any driver car would.

The interior of this car has been redone in off white vinyl. It has some wear but is in decent condition. It has black carpet that looks to be pretty new and it also has black rubber Mustang floormats. The interior is very complete. Most of the chrome parts look to be original and show some signs of wear and tear. The car was optioned with the wood grain dash that still looks nice. The dash looks to have been replaced and is in good condition with no cracks and little wear. The instrument panel contains a speedometer, fuel gauge, battery gauge, clock, oil pressure and temperature gauges. All gauges work properly. The radio has been replaced with a digital head unit that looks original. The windshield on the car looks to be fairly new and doesnt have any major scratching or pitting. The side windows all appear to be the original Carlite windows and have some scratching but no cracks or chips. They all go up and down properly.

This 1968 Mustang would make a fun driver for someone who just wants a car to cruise and get attention in. It is not a show winning car, but is very dependable and runs great. This is something that you could buy today and take to the cruise-in tonight. It is a powerful car that is great to drive and toy around with.
