1959 American Station Wagon Details

1959 AMC American Wagon Project
Has: Engine, Tran, and California Body
Engine was started last year
Clean California Title

I bought this car to fix up and get running, but don’t have time to mess with it. I bought it from a guy who had bought it and it sat for 20 years.
When I got it we wired up a new ignition switch, oiled up the cylinders, turned the engine over, primed the oil pump, and fired up the engine.
I used a gas can with a hose to the fuel pump. It fired right up. But, the radiator is old and leaking, the carb needs a rebuild as it was leaking, etc and everything you would imagine from a project that had been sitting for 20 years.
There is a big dent in the oil pan on the bottom. When the engine is running the crank is hitting the big dent on the bottom of the oil pan, and it makes a noise every revolution.
We pulled off the oil pan and you can see where the crank was hitting the sheet metal. Doesn’t look it hurt the crank at all, just the thin sheet metal.
When we went to knock out the dent, the old pan started to come apart. It will need an oil pan. We put the old pan back on for engine protection while it sits.
I can’t guarantee the engine at all, I just had it running for couple of minutes. The guy I bought it from said it ran when he parked it.. but I was not there, but tend to believe him since he told me this after I bought it. I bought it assuming it would need a motor. It sounded pretty good the minutes it was running considering the slap on the oil pan dent.
Your risk.

We had planned to redo the brakes and get driving now that we got the engine running. It is missing some brake parts in wheels. Will need everything redone.
I found who has most the brake parts needed and have figured out what will be needed, and can work something out on this info to new owner.

This is a project that has been sitting 20 years, I was going to get running, redo brakes, and put around a bit. But to be right, it will need everything like all old projects.

The body is fairly solid for what it is. See pictures. There is some rust, and I am sure you will find more when you get into it.

The tires are very old and don’t hold air very long.
